Maya Ashley is a Cleveland born and raised multi-genre vocalist. Maya’s style is a synthesis of genres such as: jazz, funk, soul, rhythm and blues, and pop. Her sound and vibe has been compared to Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, India. Arie, Norah Jones, and Corinne Bailey Rae. The vocalist is currently based in Cincinnati, OH where she is obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies (Voice) along with a minor in Political Science at the University of Cincinnati. She has been writing music since her early childhood years.
Maya is a passionate activist for several different causes and brings those values into her music. She writes her music with certain people and issues in mind with the desire for making others feel liberated, acknowledged, educated and relaxed by her art. She believes that music has the power to shift the culture by inspiring others. Maya’s debut single, “Love Me” (2019), was a song that she wrote about her personal struggles with self love and awareness with the intention of helping others with their own struggles.
She also uses music as a vehicle for her spiritual practices and beliefs. Through practices such as inner child work and divination, Maya is able to create a musical and artistic experience that people can feel moved by. Music is an art form that Maya has always felt deeply connected to, and she views it not only as entertainment and expression, but also a vehicle for change. To her, success in music is her own personal happiness, making others happy, and making a positive societal impact in the world with her works. Maya Ashley’s music is made with the intent of helping and uplifting marginalized people and educating the masses.
